E’ una serata di fine estate a Cordoba, il Boca è in gran forma, sta dominando il campionato ed è vicino alla conquista per il secondo anno consecutivo. Il River invece è il fantasma di sè stesso: metà-alta classifica, non gioca bene e spesso è succube degli avversari. Il risultato sembrerebbe scontato ma è sempre un SuperClasico e non si mai.
Ed infatti il River fa la partita che non ti aspetti mentre il Boca appare timido e quasi incapace di affondare. I Millonarios sono sul pezzo, giocano bene con convinzione a differenza delle giornate precedenti. Andrà a finire così: rigore del Pity e gol di Scocco per il 2-0 e tutti a casa. Primo campanello d’allarme per Schelotto.
10 maggio 2018 – Boca Campeón de Argentina
Il Boca si consacra campione d’Argentina per la seconda volta consecutiva ed è festa alla Bombonera fino a tarda notte. Nel pomeriggio infatti gli uomini di Schelotto trovano a Mendoza il punto tanto desiderato per consacrarsi aritmicamente Campeón, contro il sorprendente GodoyCruz del Morro Gracia, autentico trascinatore.
Tevez, al ritorno dalla Cina contribuisce insieme a Pavon (vera rivelazione), Abila, Cardona e a tutta la squadra a confermarsi campioni d’Argentina.
Il River terminerà addirittura ottavo, fuori dalla zona Libertadores, anche se sarà di fatto l’ultimo trofeo alzato dall’allenatore xeneize Schelotto.

L’inizio dei mondiali e l’eliminazione dell’Argentina.
Nessuno, nei giorni che precedevano l’esordio mundial aveva avvertito alcun tipo di sentore che potesse far immaginare la pessima figura che avrebbe fatto di li a poco l’albiceleste. O forse no.
La federazione argentina compie delle scelte scellerate per organizzare la preparazione al mundial. In primo luogo l’amichevole quasi inutile con Haiti (4-0) alla Bombonera, che il presidente Chiqui Tapia e compañeros fanno passare per autentico trionfo, poi, la fatidica partita contro Israele.. in Israele. L’arrivo dell’Albiceleste in una terra del globo caldissima dal punto di vista della sicurezza, genera la feroce protesta palestinese e la condanna dal mondo arabo. Dopo che vengono trovati dei manichini impiccati con la maglietta argentina si capisce che forse non era il caso di scomodarsi tanto. Risultato? Viaggio a vuoto, stress emotivo e novanta minuti in meno sulle gambe. L’Argentina giocherà in definitiva solo un’amichevole in preparazione dell’appuntamento mundial in Russia. Pochino.
L’Albiceleste non è una delle favorite del torneo ma ha buone probabilità di essere tra le protagoniste. Nel girone la selección prima fatica (1-1) con l’Islanda (Messi rigore sbagliato) e poi perde malamente con la Croazia (0-3). Spaccatura tra giocatori e Sampaoli, clan di giocatori divisi e voci di autogestione serpeggiano quei giorni nelle giornate russe. Fino alla debacle, contro la Francia (4-3), quando iniziano inesorabili i processi alla Nazionale.

23 settembre 2018 – Superclasico
Inizia la stagione 2018/19 della Superliga e Boca e River sono un po’ attardati rispetto al Racing Club già capolista. Il Boca non propone il gioco dell’anno prima, sembra meno invincibile, riappaiono i fantasmi, quelli della SuperCopa. Il River invece gioca meglio, la Banda sembra più squadra, più gruppo rispetto agli xeneizes. Con un gran gol del Pity e Scocco (ancora loro) il River espugna la Bombonera nel superclasico di Superliga. Guillermo Schelotto rimane impietrito ed incredulo, incapace di reagire. Siamo solo a settembre, ma ne dovrà ingoiare ancora di rospi il povero Guille.. Secondo campanello d’allarme per il Boca. Il River invece ha la faccia del Pity e di Gallardo, protagonisti che avranno, mesi più tardi, un posto speciale nelle bacheche del club…
11 novembre 2018 – Finale andata Libertadores (parte I)
La Libertadores 2018 dà il suo clamoroso verdetto: sarà nientemeno che il superclasico argentino la finale della competizione. La finale del secolo la chiamano, ovvero la finale che tutti volevano vedere e tutti la volevano evitare: Boca-River per l’obsesion della Copa Libertadores. Mai si era giunti a tanto.
Nella partita d’andata alla Bombonera si scatena in vero e propio nubifragio che allaga lo stadio e i dintorni della capital. Dopo alcuni rinvii di orario dovuto a sopralluoghi dell’arbitro, la Conmebol prende la decisione di giocare l’indomani. Sarà il primo rinvio di una lunga serie.
12 novembre 2018 – Finale andata Libertadores (parte II)
Non piove e già questa è una buona notizia. La Bombonera ha drenato bene e si può giocare! In un’atmosfera di festa in uno stadio stracolmo di appassionati arrivati da tutto il mondo, finalmente l’arbitro mette in bocca il fischietto e decreta l’inizio della finale di andata. Il Boca gioca un po’ meglio rispetto alle ultime uscite; ha recuperato Benedetto, protagonista assoluto nelle notti magiche che hanno portato il Xeneize alla finale. Dall’altra parte Gallardo Napoleon, squalificato e interdetto dalla Bombonera per essersi presentato nello spogliatoio (da squalificato) nella decisiva semifinale contro il Gremio, si ‘inventa’ la difesa a 3 con gli esterni che si abbassano e si alzano a seconda del possesso. Il Boca in vantaggio 2 volte si lascia riprendere da un caparbio River: finisce 2-2 in una partita bellissima ma forse con un sapore più dolce per il River.
24 novembre 2018 – Finale ritorno Libertadores (parte I)
In programma il ritorno della final al Monumental, che non si giocherà mai. All’arrivo del pullman del Boca, dei pseudotifosi-barrabravas a poche centinaia di metri dal Monumental, alla rotonda de Quinteros, lanciano pietre sui vetri del mezzo, sfondando i cristalli che vanno in frantumi. L’autista riesce per miracolo a non perdere il controllo del mezzo e qualche giocatore rimane ferito. È l’inizio della fine. Pablo Pérez presenta dei piccoli tagli in prossimità dell’occhio sinistro e non può giocare, gli altri compagni vomitano per l’effetto dei gas lacrimogeni lanciati dalla polizia per disperdere i facinorosi (lì, dove non dovevano esserci).
Il River e la Conmebol vogliono giocare, il Boca no. Alla fine il River si schiera con i rivali, a patto (firmato) che si giochi l’indomani.
25 novembre 2018 – Finale ritorno Libertadores (parte II)
Ma il giorno dopo accade di tutto. Il Monumental è ‘sequestrato’ dalla polizia di Buenos Aires per i disordini di alcuni facinorosi a causa della partita non giocata il giorno prima, ma la cosa si risolve pagando una forte multa. Il Boca si rifiuta di giocare volendo andare per vie legali, dato che ancora in squadra vige la paura dell’aggressione avvenuta appena il giorno prima.
Alla fine di varie riunioni interne il presidente Boca Angelici annuncia che la squadra non scenderà in campo, dichiarando che si appellerà al tribunale disciplinare della Conmebol, sottilineando la mancanza di sicurezza vigente. Tradotto, vuol dire che il Boca ‘va por los puntos’, va per la vittoria a tavolino, forte anche del precedente subìto proprio dal River nella famosa notte del ‘gas pimienta’ del 2015. A questo punto il Millonario, convinto di dover giocare davanti ai propri tifosi in un Monumental stracolmo, si infuria. Dopo un paio di posticipi la Conmebol rinvia clamorosamente la finale di ritorno. Non si gioca.
È la rottura totale: il River rivendica l’accordo firmato il giorno prima, il Boca ‘va per i punti’ cercando ‘vendetta’ per quanto i fatti clamorosi del ‘gas pimienta‘ avvenuti appena tre anni prima.
Attraverso mediazioni diplomatiche di AFA e Conmebol si deciderà poi di giocare il ritorno, ma a Madrid e dopo che il tribunale disciplinare della Conmebol respingerà il ricorso xeneize, assolvendo il River e incolpando il sistema di sicurezza fallato della polizia. Quel tratto di strada dove passò il bus xeneize era al di fuori dalla competenza nelle responsabilità River e doveva essere bonificato dalla ‘Policia de Ciudad’, in pratica, in quella rotonda non ci doveva essere nessuno. In seguito alla decisione, si dimetteranno vari responsabili della sicurezza del governo di Baires.
Ma perchè si gioca a Madrid? Bella domanda. Un pò per punire il River, un pò per interessi commerciali. Fatto sta che al Bernabeu sarà la prima volta che si giocherà una gara di Copa Libertadores sudamericana.
9 dicembre 2018 – Finale ritorno Libertadores (parte III)
Finalmente si gioca, a Madrid ma si gioca!
Inizia male il River, impreciso sui passaggi, troppo lungo e sfilacciato, non promette nulla di buono stasera. Il Boca invece si ritrova 2 palle gol in mezz’ora, sembra più presente mentalmente, l’approccio è stato buono. Sul finale del primo tempo va pure in vantaggio con un ‘eurogol (a Madrid si può dirlo..) di Benedetto che a sorpresa parte titolare. Il secondo tempo il Boca invece non lo gioca, rimane con la testa e con le gambe negli spogliatoi. Non una azione pericolosa, appare scarico sulle gambe, sembra accontentarsi del risultato. Il River invece sembra più presente ed intenzionato a far qualcosa in più rispetto a quanto fatto vedere finora. Segna Pratto e al 90′ Barrios si fa espellere per doppia ammonizione. È la fine, solo 15′ in più di sopravvivenza e poi Quintero, entrato nel secondo tempo, fa una magia e segna il 2-1. Il Boca ora è in 9 per il brutto infortunio a Gago e sembra che ormai il destino gli abbia girato le spalle. Gollonzo a porta vuota del Pity ed è davvero finita. Schelotto purtroppo apparirà come il peggior perdente del secolo e Gallardo come imperatore della gloria eterna.

Finisce 3-1 e il River è campione della Libertadores d’America, in Europa. Mai successo prima.
